Biography
Craig Walsh's music has been described by Richard Buell of the Boston Globe as "teemingly imaginative, from a composer whom we want to hear more." Robert Carl of Fanfare Magazine remarked, "The energy in this music...gives one a buzz." And Records International noted, "a particular sensitivity to the nuances of timbre and the possibilities afforded by the use of unusual instrumental combinations."
Dr. Walsh is the recipient of numerous awards including a Guggenheim Fellowship, Meet The Composer/MetLife Creative Connection Grant, Jebediah New Music Commission, Lee Ettelson Composers Award for chamber music, Salvatore Martirano Award from the University of Illinois, Concorso Internazionale Luigi Russolo (Italy), National Association of Composers in the United States (NACUSA), Friends and Enemies of New Music (NYC), Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), Siday Prize for Musical Creativity from the International Computer Music Association (ICMC), and grants from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), among others.
His acoustic and electro-acoustic music has been presented in the United States, Europe, South America, New Zealand, and Asia. Notable performances include those at Weill Recital Hall, the Mondavi Center, Merkin Concert Hall, Hong-Kong City Hall Theatre, Dom Oruzanih snaga "Army Hall" in Sarajevo, Bourges International Electronic Music Festival (France), Third Practice Festival (University of Richmond), Boston CyberArts Festival, Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, Australasian Computer Music Conference, Trinity and Royal Northern Colleges of Music (UK), Korean Computer Music Festival, Hogeschool Gent Conservatorium (Belgium) and the Brazilian Symposium on Computer Music, among others.
His music has been performed by such groups as New York New Music Ensemble, Empyrean Ensemble, Manhattan String Quartet, Indiana University New Music Ensemble, University of Missouri St. Louis Dance Company, Oberlin Sinfonietta, Wellesley Composer's Conference Chamber Orchestra, Lontano New Music (UK), Mallarme Chamber Players, New York University New Music Ensemble, Lydian String Quartet, Middle Voices; and soloists Rhonda Rider, Daniel Stepner, Stephen Gosling, David Fulmer, Madeleine Shapiro, Mark Rush, Norm Weinberg, Todd Rewoldt, F. Gerard Errante, Andrew Willis and Philipp Staudlin.
Dr. Walsh's music is recorded on Albany Records, Centaur Records and the Society of Electro-Acoustic Music in the United States CD series. His music is published by European American Music and CWM Music (ASCAP).
Craig Walsh studied at the Mannes College of Music (B.Mus.) and Brandeis University (M.F.A., Ph.D.). His composition teachers include Martin Boykan, Eric Chasalow, Robert Cuckson, David Loeb, and Yehudi Wyner. Prior to his appointment at the University of Arizona, he served on the composition and theory faculty at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He is a board member of The New West Electronic Arts and Music Organization (NWEAMO).

- Cookin' The Books for flute, clarinet, viola, viola, violoncello, percussion and piano; music composition; October; Cookin' The Books, for flute, clarinet, viola, viola, violoncello, percussion and piano, was commissioned by the Empyrean Ensemble at the University of California at Davis. The premiere will be given on January 13, 2008 at the Mondavi Center at UC Davis in a concert with new music inspired by John Cage and Merce Cunningham.

- Concerto for Viola and Computer; Viola and electronics; October; I began research (listening/score study) and early sketches for this composition in November of 2013. It is being composed for Prof. Hong-Mei Xiao.
- Composition for saxophone and electroacoustic music; Electronic with live performer; October; In 2008 I was commissioned by saxophonist Dr. Todd Rewoldt (San Diego State University) to write a piece for alto saxophone and electroacoustic music. Dr. Rewoldt has asked me to compose another work for him--this one in the style of "Deep House" electronic music. I am currently learning software (Reason) and doing listening research for this musc.

- The Destruction of the Temple of Heaven for piano and winds; Composition for piano, winds and percussion; October; The Destruction of the Temple of Heaven, for piano and 9 players, was written for Gregg Hanson, the UA Wind Symphony, and Prof. Tannis Gibson. The premiere date is April 15, 2013. It is slated to be recorded at the end of April 2013. The recording is an ongoing project with Prof. Tannis Gibson and Gregg Hanson for an Album with Albany Records of new music for piano and winds.

Significant changes to the electroacoustic and acoustic parts had to be rewritten for this version.
