Biography
Dr. Neal graduated with honors for the University of California in Riverside before receiving his Medical Degree in 1982 from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, University of California, Los Angeles. He completed his General Surgery residency here at the University of Arizona, Department of Surgery in June 1987. He is Board Certified. After completion of Dr. Neal's residency, he remained in affiliation with the University of Arizona while in 1983 was employed by CIGNA HealthCare Plan as an Urgent Care Physician and Staff Surgeon thru 1992. In 1992, he was appointed Chief, General Surger at the Southern Arizona Veterans Administration Hospital right here in Tucson and remained on staff there until 1997. In 1997 he joined the Thomas Davis Medical Center as Staff Surgeon and in 1998 went into private practice as President of Palo Verde Surgical Associates. Just recently, he joined the University of Arizona as Chief, General Surgery at BUMC Tucson South Campus Hospital. Dr. Neal remains affiliated with the Carondelet Medical Network and has received awards such as "Physician Recognition Award" by the American Medical Association. He has served on several planning committee's for the American College of Surgeons as here locally has held office as President, Secretary/Treasurer for the Tucson Surgical Society. Dr. Neal has a couple of book chapters and numerous journal/articles to his credit and enjoys working in the educational arena with Medical Students and Residents. He is also actively involved with the planning in meeting the demands of patient needs and community health education in correlation with the South Campus Hospital. Through Dr. Neal's realtionships with outside medical communities, he has helped to raise the patient population here at BUMC South. His partnering with South Administration and fellow colleagues in implementing new clinical services for surgery have helped to streamline and further provide top notch patient care. Dr. Neal is also an advocate for our Student Clerkship Programs and the education that is provided for our General Surgery Residents. Both students, residents and other program residents here at the South Campus have given Dr. Neal great remarks in his teaching(s) of surgical patient care.

Teaching
Dr. Neal enjoys mentoring the 3rd Year Medical Students and General Surgery Residency Program residents that rotate through our South Campus Hospital.He also enjoys working with the Center of Excellence for Native American Health MED 493A Pre Health Shadowing Student Program where he usually sponsors up to 3 and 4 students per year.
Research
Dr. Neal's past research interests have been involved with the Treatment of Patients with Complicated Intra-Abdominal Infections.
