Biography
Dr. Eng is Assistant Professor in Public Health and Pharmacy Practice and Sciences, and Director of the Southwest Border Rural Health Research Center, Center for Rural Health in the Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health. He received his BS in Zoology and Pharmacy, and MS in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Arizona. Later, he received his Doctor in Public Health at the University of Texas, School of Public Health.
He has 40+ years of experience working in health care. Dr. Eng has been a health services/policy researcher for 29 years. He has 23 years of experience working in rural Arizona and 21 years of working on the U.S.-Mexico Border. He was selected to the National Rural Health Leadership Development Program sponsored by the National Rural Health Association and Federal Office of Rural Health Policy in 2003. His training and expertise include pharmacy, health services and policy research, health economics, epidemiology, public health, rural health, and border health. He has been a faculty member in the Colleges of Pharmacy, Medicine, and Public Health. Dr. Eng was the recipient of the 1998-1999 University of Arizona Health Sciences Center Deans’ Teaching Scholars and Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health 2010 Excellence in Teaching Award.
Dr. Eng was the recipient of the University of Arizona Asian American Faculty, Staff, and Alumni Association’s Outstanding Faculty Award in 2009, was honored as the Pan Asian Community Alliance’s Pan Asian Man of the Year in 2012, and was selected as White House "Champions of Changed" and honored by the White House and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on April 24, 2014.

Research
include to (1) identify the best methods/practices that enhance the delivery of health services to improve rural, border, and/or tribal health, (2) study factors that impact the community health delivery system (e.g., access to health services, health care financing, barriers to care, workforce trends, quality improvement, and diffusion/adoption of new technology), (3) determine the impact of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act on access to health services, (4) identify strategies that reduce health disparities in minority populations, and (5) study methods that improve pharmaceutical use patterns to improve therapeutic outcomes.
