Biography
James B. McLoone, M.D. is a native Phoenician and third generation Arizona physician. After completing his undergraduate studies at the University of Arizona he attended medical school at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. where he was selected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Upon completing his residency at the U.C.L.A. Neuropsychiatric Institute where he was Chief Resident he returned to Phoenix. Dr. McLoone was Director of the Psychiatry Residency at Banner-University Medical Center in Phoenix (formerly Good Samaritan) from 1981-2015. He has been the Chair of Psychiatry at Banner-University Medical Center Phoenix since 1992. He served as Chair of the Graduate Medical Education Committee at B-UMCP from 1992-2015 and was Acting DIO from 2003 - 2007. He completed the Physician Leadership Institute Program in the School of Health Administration at A.S.U. and the Graduate Medical Education Leadership Development Program of the A.A.M.C.
Dr. McLoone has been actively involved in the development of the U of A College of Medicine Phoenix Campus since its inception including his continuing role as Director of the Psychiatry Clerkship since 1994 and as Associate Head of Psychiatry for Academic and Clinical Affairs from 1997-2011. He was named Chair of Psychiatry for the Phoenix Campus in 2017. He presently serves on the U of A-Banner Academic Medicine Council Education Committee, the COM-P Chairs' Strategy Committee and the Clinical Curriculum Subcommittee. He also serves on several committees at B-UMCP including the Excutive Comittee, Banner - University Medical Group Chairs' Committee and as Chair of the Psychiatry Committee.
Dr. McLoone is board certified in both Adult and Geriatric Psychiatry and is a Distnguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. He is a Professor of Psychiatry in the Clinical Scholar's Track of the U of A COM-P and has been named to the Dean's List for Teaching Excellence. He is also a recipient of the Howard E. Wulsin Excellence in Teaching Award of the Arizona Psychiatric Society. In addition to his academic and administrative responsibilities, Dr McLoone is active clinically focusing on affective and anxiety disorders and more recently collaborative healthcare between Psychiatry and other medical specialties.
