Biography
Dr. Kevin Hainline is an assistant research professor at Steward Observatory here at the University of Arizona. His primary research focuses on understanding the optical and infrared properties of distant galaxies. Specifically, he works on uncovering new methods for finding powerful supermassive black holes and understanding the relationship between these sources of light and the galaxies that they inhabit. He's also a member of the NASA/James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) NIRCam science team under Dr. Marcia Rieke. JWST, the successor to the Hubble Space Telescope, is set to launch in late October 2021 and will peer back to uncover the first galaxies in the history of the universe.
Kevin is also active in astronomy outreach, and has spent over a decade giving public talks, planetarium shows, and science workshops. His work was included in STEM to Story, a collection of science lecture plans assembled by 826 National. He has streamed hours of public astronomy lectures on Youtube.
