Chest.More infoPost-pulmonary embolism (PE) dyspnea is common. Existing noninvasive studies have demonstrated that post-PE dyspnea is associated with elevations in right ventricular (RV) afterload, dead space ventilation, and deconditioning. We aimed to use invasive cardiopulmonary exercise testing (iCPET) parameters in patients with post-PE dyspnea to identify unique physiologic phenotypes.

Clinical Characteristics and Mortality Risks Among Patients With Culture-Proven Coccidioidomycosis Who Are Critically Ill: A Multicenter Study in an Endemic Region. Open forum infectious diseases, 11(8), ofae454.More infoCoccidioidomycosis is an endemic mycosis in the southwestern United States. While most infections are mild, severe cases can be devastating. We aimed to describe the clinical characteristics and mortality risks of patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) with culture-proven coccidioidomycosis.

An Exploratory-Descriptive Analysis of Training Programs for Leadership in Health Research and Services in India. Indian journal of public health, 68(2), 243-250.More infoThere are several leadership training programs for health researchers in India. However, there is a need to develop context-tailored leadership and mentoring approaches.

Extracting International Classification of Diseases Codes from Clinical Documentation using Large Language Models. Applied clinical informatics.More infoLarge language models (LLMs) have shown promise in various professional fields, including medicine and law. However, their performance in highly specialized tasks, such as extracting ICD-10-CM codes from patient notes, remains underexplored.

Benchmarking Large Language Models for Extraction of International Classification of Diseases Codes from Clinical Documentation. medRxiv : the preprint server for health sciences.More infoHealthcare reimbursement and coding is dependent on accurate extraction of International Classification of Diseases-tenth revision - clinical modification (ICD-10-CM) codes from clinical documentation. Attempts to automate this task have had limited success. This study aimed to evaluate the performance of large language models (LLMs) in extracting ICD-10-CM codes from unstructured inpatient notes and benchmark them against human coder.

Lung cancer mortality trends and disparities: A cross-sectional analysis 1999-2020. Cancer epidemiology, 92, 102652.More infoLung cancer remains a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the United States. Given the importance of epidemiological insight on lung cancer outcomes as the foundation for targeted interventions, we aimed to examine lung cancer death trends in the United States in the recent 22-year period, exploring demographic disparities and yearly mortality shifts.
- Wig, R., & Oakley, C. B. (2019). Dysautonomia and Headache in the Pediatric Population. Headache, 59(9), 1582-1588.More infoDysautonomia and headache are 2 common diagnoses within pediatric neurology; in the case of dysautonomia, a lack of consideration may lead to misdiagnosis. Despite being common conditions, there is a lot to learn about each individually as well as collectively. Many of the symptoms between headache and dysautonomia patients overlap making the diagnosis difficult. Migraine patients often exhibit symptoms of dysautonomia, namely postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS); yet these symptoms are overlooked or lumped in as a part of their migraine diagnosis. The distinction or coexistence between dysautonomia and headache is identified through a thorough history, a full exam, and an open mind. This is crucial for the treatment and outcomes of these patients. Struggles arise when critical treatment differences are overlooked because dysautonomia is not considered. In this review, we will look at the epidemiology of dysautonomia and headache with focus on POTS and migraine. We will then compare the clinical features of both conditions as well as some hypothesized pathophysiology overlaps. We will conclude by summarizing the diagnostic approach and multitiered treatment options for POTS and migraine.
