Biography
Dr. Suzanne Knosp is a Professor of Dance and the Music Director for Dance at the University of Arizona School of Dance in Tucson, Arizona. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in music and dance and accompanies dance technique classes.
As a pianist and composer, Suzanne has collaborated with many choreographers. Her work with Melissa Lowe includes three DVDs distributed internationally on the KULTUR label including the newest DVD, The New Ballet Workout: for Wellness, Renewal and Vitality. Her book, Ballet Barre and Center Combinations, Volume II: Music (Princeton Book Company) and accompanying CD provides original musical accompaniment for notated ballet class exercises. Her scores and recordings for The New Ballet Workout, Sabada: Music for Contemporary Dance and her new book My Favorite Classical Music for Ballet Class are available from the National Dance Education Organization (http://www.ndeo.org)
For the past 15 years, Dr. Knosp has worked collaboratively with double bassist, Patrick Neher, in a variety of concert venues including solo and chamber works for double bass and through multimedia improvisatory presentations as a member of the group, Crossing Barriers.
Dr. Knosp is a specialist in the research, education and training of dance musicians. Her Dance Music Catalogue is available online at http://www.u.arizona.edu/~sknosp.
Dr. Knosp created the curriculum for the Master of Music in Dance Accompaniment in both piano and percussion performance. The University of Arizona is the only major public university in the world to offer these degree programs.
She has lectured and performed at numerous national and international festivals and conferences and is an active member of the National Dance Education Organization and the Music Teachers National Association.
Dr. Knosp is a member of the International Guild of Musicians in Dance and served as Treasurer of the Guild from 1992-1999, Vice President from 2005-2009 and president from 2009- 2014.
In 1988, she received a DMA in piano performance pedagogy from the University of Iowa where she was a student of Kenneth Amada and studied dance accompaniment with Francoise Martinet and Alicia Brown.

Creative Works
- Grand Canyon Suite: Aspens; October; For many years, I have been envisioning a work for solo piano which conveys my experiences on the North and South Rim of the Grand Canyon. In November, I was commissioned by pianist Katharine Christensen to compose a work for her based on my experiences of living in Arizona. This work will be presented as a set on her solo piano recital in February 2010. She will be performing one of the works from my suite, Aspens
- Three Songs on Estonian Poems: Talvine Õhtu; Songs for mezzo soprano and piano; October; I am composing three songs based on Estonian poems for graduate student Elen Voltein Marsh. The first poem Talvine Õhtu is completed. I will finish the other two songs in the spring. The work will be presented on her thesis concert.
- Music for Modern Dance; Original Piano Solo Music; October; I completed 17 pieces for my score and CD recording, Music for Modern Dance. I had planned to complete the recording. However, the sound engineer was in a car accident and I had to reschedule the recording for next semester.
- The New Ballet Workout, for Vitality, Wellness and Healing; October; This fall, I was commissioned by KULTUR International to compose fourteen original solo pianos pieces in two weeks for The New Ballet Workout. This video is the third in the Ballet Workout series developed by Melissa Lowe. I will also be producing a CD and score to be published in conjunction with the video.
- Ballet Barre and Center Exercises: Volume II Music CD; Princton Book Publishing, Inc.; October; This is a CD of the original music from my book Ballet Barre and Center Exercises Volume II: Music
- Dancing in Duple; Piano Score; October; This is a new book of music for ballet class that I am developing. I have been arranging music in duple meter for ballet class.
- The Kissing Waltz; piano solo; Boosey & Hawkes; October; This is a piano solo that was created in collaboration with choreographer Nina Janik. The piece was designed for performance on the Valentine's Day Concert. However, it will be performed on other venues as well.
- Romance with a Double Bass; piano/bass theatrical work; October; This is a work the I co-composed with Patrick Neher for his fall concert.
- Classical Music for Ballet Class; Piano recording; March
- The Meaning of Love; Piano, trumpet, tenor and soprano; March; Created an original score for piano trumpet, tenor and soprano based on the email, "What Does Love Mean." I added original text to the score.
- The New ballet Workout; KULTUR; March; I composed and recorded 15 original piano pieces for this video.
- Les Images de Temps; Piano Solo; March; I created an original piano score for Wendy Ellis' Final Project
- Music from The New Ballet Workout; Self; March; I finally received permission from KULTUR to publish the music from The New Ballet Workout
- Your Eyes; March; I recorded Patrick Neher's work Your Eyes for piano, double bass and lyric soprano. The work will eventually become part of a CD of Patrick's compositions.

- Talvine Õhtu; Song for mezzo soprano and piano; March; This is the first of three songs based on Estonian poems for mezzo soprano and piano that I a composing for graduate student Elen Voltein. It will be presented on her thesis concert in May, 2005.

- Music for all sorts of contemporary dance; March; Two of my works The Kissing Waltz and The Daisy follows soft the sun from Five Songs on the Poems of Emily Dickinson for mezzo soprano and piano, were included on the compilation CD for the paricipants of the International Guild of Musicians in Dance Conference at UCIrvine in January 2004.
- Five Songs on the Poems of Emily Dickinson; voice and piano; Classical Vocal Reprints; June; I completed work on this set of pieces. I composed If I May Have It, I'll Tell You How the Sun Rose and I Felt a Funeral in My Brain over the summer.

- Music for Contemporary Class; Piano music for modern class; During the fall semester, I accompanied advanced modern class for Tammy Dyke-Compton. I kept copious notes and records of the music I created for class and plan to publish it in the coming year.
- Pieces from my Past (working title); Piano music for ballet class; I discovered a box of approximately 30 pieces that I composed for ballet class while I lived in Iowa City, Iowa. I am planning to publish them using Finale, a music writing program.
- Evolutionary Investigations: American Music for Ballet Class 1900-Present; I have been working on publishing the information from my presentation at Il Corpo nel Suono, Rome, Italy (2019) entitled, Evolutionary Investigations: American Music for Ballet Class 1900-Present.
- If Only Love...; Piano and voice; un-published; This is a work that I composed for Erika Colombi for her candidacy project. The poem is a love poem by Pablo Neruda. This will be part of a micro opera that I am composing for voice, piano, double bass and dancers.
