Biography

Wayne Decker, Professor of Geography and Development, is also Co-Director of the University of Arizona’s Masters in Development Practice (MDP) program. His PhD from Johns Hopkins University is in international politics (political economy). He has held fellowships at Harvard and Stanford while researching and collaborating with others, inside and outside academia, to reduce US-Northeast Asian political, military and economic tensions. Dr. Decker was the founding Director of International Studies at Arizona and has been heavily involved with the new undergraduate major in Global Studies. He was also previously Associate Director of International Programs, where he built foreign study programs in China, Mexico, Brazil and Japan.  His current research and program-building efforts are on the use of ICT-based innovation and social entrepreneurship to stimulate university-fostered development in Sub-Sahara Africa. In addition to teaching several required courses for the MDP degree, he teaches courses on Global Political Economy and Development, as well as on Innovation and Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Development
