Relative contributions of lean and fat mass to bone strength in young Hispanic and non-Hispanic girls. Bone, 113, 144-150. doi:10.1016/j.bone.2018.05.023More infoWith the high prevalence of childhood obesity, especially among Hispanic children, understanding how body weight and its components of lean and fat mass affect bone development is important, given that the amount of bone mineral accrued during childhood can determine osteoporosis risk later in life. The aim of this study was to assess the independent contributions of lean and fat mass on volumetric bone mineral density (vBMD), geometry, and strength in both weight-bearing and non-weight-bearing bones of Hispanic and non-Hispanic girls.
