Biography

I have been a nurse for over 25 years. I feel nursing is the greatest profession on earth. I started nursing in the Critical Care setting in 1997. My areas have included: ICU, Open Heart Recovery Room, Disease Management, Cardiac Rehab and the Progressive Care Unit. I started teaching nursing students in 2010. By 2012 I had received my MSN with an emphasis in Education. I also like to work in the Community. I worked with the Arizona Department of Education and the Arizona Department of Health and lead the development of The Arizona Resource Guide to Managing Food Allergies in Arizona Schools. This allowed me to speak at many conferences and schools across the State in regards to this important issue. In 2023 I received my PhD in Nursing with a minor in Educational Leadership. My research focus is moral injury in nursing. I am serving as Program Director for both MEPN and BSN-IH on our Gilbert Campus.

Interests

Research

In 2017, I was a fellow in The University of Arizona's Integrative Nursing Faculty Fellowship. My area of interest in nursing research stems from this opportunity and is in Integrative Nursing (IN). I believe IN is foundational to the art of nursing. I have been incorporating Integrative Nursing Principles into the content of nursing courses. In addition, I have created modules for our CON clinical courses that incorporate Integrative Nursing Principles and self-care strategies. I feel strongly that incorporating these principles into our curriculum will make for better nurses and facilitate better patient outcomes. Nursing is at a crossroads, on one hand we have a nursing shortage and on the other we have nurses rapidly leaving the bedside within the first few years of being at the bedside. I would like to see if adding the IN principles to our curriculum with the addition of self-care would reduce burnout and/or compassion fatigue for new graduate nurses. In addition, allow them to not only stay at the bedside longer but also still have the passion for nursing that drew them to the profession to begin with.

Teaching

I enjoy developing and implementing teaching modules that bring real world practice into the classroom.
