Advanced Practice Nursing Education: Strategies to Advance Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging

    . The Journal of nursing education, 64(Issue 9). doi:10.3928/01484834-20241119-01
    More info
BACKGROUND: Diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) are essential in advanced practice education to address systemic racism and health inequities. The American Association of Colleges of Nursing's (AACN) The Essentials: Core Competencies for Professional Nursing Education highlight nursing's role in addressing these challenges and developed a DEI toolkit. METHOD: A symposium was created for nurse practitioner faculty to explore DEIB integration using case studies based on anti-DEIB legislation. Participants applied the AACN DEI Toolkit across institutional viability, access, climate, and education. RESULTS: Participant feedback indicated high satisfaction, with increased awareness of anti-DEIB legislation and improved knowledge of the AACN DEI Toolkit. Informal debriefing revealed varying levels of readiness to address DEIB challenges. CONCLUSION: Addressing structural racism in nursing education requires strategies and collaboration. The AACN DEI Toolkit provides a foundation for integrating DEIB into nursing curricula, promoting equitable, culturally competent health care. This initiative is crucial for preparing advanced practice nursing graduates to meet the evolving needs of diverse populations.

Collaborative Virtual Observed Structured Clinical Exams With Advanced Pratice Registered Nurse and Registered Nurse Students

    . Journal for Nurse Practitioners, 20(Issue 2). doi:10.1016/j.nurpra.2023.104874
    More info
Simulation-based education activities allow nursing students to develop and demonstrate clinical competencies. An innovative simulation model was created and deployed to provide immersive collaborative clinical practice for advanced practice and prelicensure students in telehealth with an interprofessional team of nursing educators and simulation specialists over 2 years. Feedback from all participant groups was used to evaluate and improve each activity. The advanced practice and prelicensure students demonstrated achievement of planned learning outcomes and contributed to ongoing improvements in the design and delivery of the collaborative simulations.

Visualizing Resilience: Photovoice as a Transdisciplinary Bridge Between Healthcare, Art, and Border Communities.

    . a2ru Conference.. Madison WI.
    More info
This session shares a transdisciplinary collaboration between universities in the U.S. and Mexico using PhotoVoice methodology to document and reflect upon health experiences across border communities. Nursing students captured visual narratives revealing how care practices, consciousness of systemic challenges, and community structures contribute to health resilience. Art students designed exhibition frameworks that invited broader public engagement with these themes. The project merges healthcare perspectives with artistic inquiry to create a multidimensional understanding of health factors across cultural contexts, highlighting both structural challenges and community strengths. Presenters will discuss approaches to community-centered exhibitions and implications for health education, arts engagement, and cross-institutional collaboration.

Creating Practice-Ready Nurse Practitioners Through the Clinical Expert Model

    . International Nursing Research CongressSigma.
    More info
Attendees will examine how the clinical expert model equips NP students with enhanced clinical judgment, decision-making, and professional competence. This session provides guidance on designing and implementing scaffolded expert assessments within educational programs, offering practical strategies for effective replication.
