Students and practitioners alike often feel uncomfortable finding research and even less adequate in their ability to read and interpret it. Properly citing references, both orally and in writing, is a critical skill along with avoiding plagiarism. Professional ethics related to communication is also addressed.

- Skorupski, K. J. (2022, July). Impact of Yoga on Undergraduate Freshman Resilience and Academic Persistence. Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Justice in Health Care Research - 6th Annual Faculty & Student Scholarship Symposium. Virtual: Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions.More infoStress and mental health issues are widespread in college students, and students may benefit from increased resilience. The objective of this study was to determine the impact of Hatha yoga on resilience and to determine the relationship between resilience and academic persistence. This study was a quantitative, prospective controlled trial using pre-test, post-test design with a convenience sample. Participants included University freshmen students who participated in either weekly 1-hour yoga sessions, practiced progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) for 10 minutes daily, six times per week, or continued with activity as usual (wait list control). The intervention length was planned for six weeks but was shortened to four weeks due to the start of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Outcome measures included Brief Resilience Score (BRS), Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC 25), Academic Resilience Scale (ARS-30), and persistence to sophomore year. Results included significant increases in post scores compared to pre for the PMR group in both the BRS (p=.011) and CD-RISC 25 scales (p=.029), demonstrating increased resilience. Significant changes were found for both yoga (p=.034), and PMR (p=.001) in ARS-30 Factor 3 scores, showing a decrease in negative thoughts regarding academics. No relationship between resilience and academic persistence was found. The results of this study demonstrate that Hatha yoga and PMR can positively impact resilience in college freshmen.
