Biography

Dr. Christopher Williams is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Arizona. He completed medical school in 2008 at Saint Louis University School of Medicine. He went on to complete emergency medicine residency at the University of Arizona in 2011. He has since worked in both community and academic emergency medicine in Texas and Arizona. Dr. Williams' primary area of academic interest is wilderness medicine, in which he has earned his fellowship. He is an instructor in Advanced Wilderness Life Support and has taught courses in the Grand Canyon, and Chamonix, France. Dr Williams runs the wilderness medicine elective for the UofA College of Medicine. He also runs the undergraduate EMS elective in wilderness medicine. Dr Williams provides medical direction for Mt Graham International Observatory, Organ Pipe National Monument, and the Southeast Arizona Group of National Park Sites. Additionally, he is a frequent educator for the Southern Arizona Rescue Association.

 

Dr. Williams has professional interests in resident and medical student education and serves as core faculty for the Univ of Arizona Tucson Campus residency program. He is also the Clerkship Director for Emergency Medicine and oversees the emergency department’s medical student electives.

    Traumatic brain injury (TBI) results in an estimated 1.7 million emergency department visits each year in the United States. These injuries frequently occur outside, leaving injured individuals exposed to environmental temperature extremes before they are transported to a hospital.
